We had quite an eventful weekend this weekend. Actually, it was an eventful 12 hours. On Saturday, we headed over to Austin. R's compay was participating in an event called "CANstruction" where they use cans to build anything they want and when the even it over they donate all of the cans used. It was a really cool thing to see. R's company did "The Very Hungry CANapillar." I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it was sooooo cool. And much larger than I thought it would be. I was very impressed!
Here is R and the kids in front of the "Very Hungry CANipillar".
"The Very Hungry CANipillar"
The really cool thing about it is, these cans are not wrapped in any extra paper. It is only the labels from the cans. There is also nothing holding the cans in place. Where there is a hole, they taped the bottom of the cans and there are a few thin peaces of board to provide support. But that's all! Very cool!!!
Here is a boot that we saw. It was really neat, because up close and in person it just looked like the cans were all stacked. But when I went to take the picture, I saw the pattern in the boot!
This is a "SMART" car.
What's really cool is that they parked a real SMART car next to it so you can compare. What they built is almost life size and looks a lot like the real car.
So, after we saw the CANstruction we headed over to a buddy of R's house for a football party. There were about 25 to 30 people there and we had a blast! It was so nice for me to socailize with some old friends and some new friends. I think that I really needed that to lift my spirits. Anyway, we were headed home at about 11pm and were loading the kids into the car when all of the sudden we see this car fly through the end of the street and head right for the house at the end of the road. R went racing to the car to make sure the driver was ok and I headed back to our friends house to have them call the cops and come out to help. While R was at the car, the driver slammed into reverse and fled the scene. Luckly, he headed the opposite direction from us, but he was headed for another dead-end (right by a VERY busy road). He turned and went down the sidewalk and R chased after him along with the guys from the party. Thank heavens a cop was driving by right as the guy was coming to a stop. Unbelievably, he did not hit the house (like I thought he did from the sound), he just hit the fence and a tree right by the house. The lady that lived there said that her son was sitting in the front room and if the guy had gone to the right about 10 feet, he'd have hit the house and probably the son in the room. It was a scary night.
This is the second car wreck that we've wittesed in the past 7 months from someone who was either drunk or high. I feel blessed that R and I were there since we were able to help. But more than that, I'm so glad that noone was seriously hurt in either accident.
Well, I said that it's been an eventful 12 hours for us. This is what happened this morning. I'm not sure exactly what happened, but I do know that C was getting on the couch (probably jumping a little) and somehow catipulted himself right off it and into the glass coffee table. His little eye was the first thing to hit it.
We got ice on it right away, and he's been on Tylenol all day. The swelling has gone down and thank the Lord, he did not cut it too deep so there was no need for stitches or and Emergency room visit. But he is very sad that he now has a black eye and keeps saying that he's upset because "having a black eye is boring." As you can see though, he is still a happy little guy and will be just fine come Thanksgiving.
Never a dull moment at our house!
